Strong Kinect Sales Help Microsoft Post Record Profit Growth
Sensor sales see success
Microsoft recently announced its quarterly profit reports, and the launch of Kinect helped the company's entertainment division post earnings of $3.7 billion in the three month period: that's a 55% increase on the same period in the previous year. Not bad.
Sales of the Xbox 360 itself were up 21% year-on-year, no doubt helped by the sleek new S consoles and bundles with Kinect. While the figures don't contain any specific figures about Kinect itself, Microsoft's Chief Financial Officer Peter Klein is seemingly surprised by the sensor's success:
We are enthusiastic about the consumer response to our holiday lineup of products, including the launch of Kinect. The eight million units of Kinect sensors sold in just 60 days far exceeded our expectations.
Good work, Microsoft: now how about some games?
